Martins Coupons and Deals for week of 10/24

Here are the coupons spitting out at the coupon machine in Martins this week:
  • Save $.50 on your next purchase of $6.00 or more from our Produce Department
  • Save $.50 on your next Care One Item (think toiletry items like cotton balls, q-tips, hand soap)
  • Save $.50 on your next purchase of $7.00 or more from our Deli Department
  • Save $.50 on your next purchase of $6.00 or more from our Floral Department
I only spotted a few good deals this week, plus an awesome gift card deal which I'll try out later today.  Here's the plan:

Green's Premium Ice Cream is on sale for 3/$6.00 (Must buy 3)
Use up to 3 $1.00 off any 1.5 Quart of Ice Cream coupons (I found them in my binder but for the life of me can't find what paper they were in and I only have 2)
Pay $1.00 per quart (if you have 3 coupons, if not it will be $1.50 each with 2 coupons)

Dole Frozen Fruit Shakers and other items are either on sale or reasonably priced
Use the $.75 off coupon from the 10/9 SS (doubles to $1.50)
Pay as low as $.50 for the shakers

Now for the Gift Card Deal... on page 7 of the weekly sales flyer, they advertise that if you buy a $25.00 gift card you will get a $5.00 Catalina for your next purchase.  Think about gifts that you may need for the future, a baby shower, wedding shower, birthday and buy it now.  Martins has a lot of gift cards to choose from but what I didn't see at Martins was gas gift cards.  I looked over the entire display thinking... I buy gas anyways, why not make $5.00 off of it, but didn't find a single one.  Plan B is Subway, I love Subway and I love $5.00 for free.  Think about it and see what you can come up with.  Here are some tips though:
  • You can only purchase one per transaction to get the $5.00 coupon.  No biggy, split them up.
  • I'm not sure that you can go through self check out and purchase gift cards, you might want to pick a regular lane just in case.
  • If you purchase a MC/VISA/AMEX card, you do have to pay an activation fee so it does cut into your money making profit, keep that in mind.
  • I'm not sure if you can buy a Martins Gift Card, I'll check into that later today.
Let me know what deals you find or any success finding a gas gift card...

Birthday Freebies

I celebrated a birthday recently and I wanted to share all of the wonderful things that you can get for free because you turn a year older.
  • This year from Sephora, I got a bottle of shower gel, bubble bath, shampoo.  Create a Sephora Beauty Insider Account in store or online (its a store loyalty card) and on your birthday, they will email you to let you know that you can pick up your free gift.  Christiana Mall has a Sephora.  Check out my previous post here for a picture of the freebies from Sephora and Aveda.
  • Join DD Perks Rewards and get a coupon in the mail for a free hot beverage from Dunkin Donuts.  Yummy.  If you eat/drink at Dunkin Donuts a lot, you might consider getting a card to track all of your purchases, you can earn rewards.
  • Join TGI Fridays, Give me more stripes program (loyalty card).  I got a coupon for a free dessert with the purchase of any entree.  Plus, you can earn points for any visit and they have pretty decent rewards that you will actually use.
  • Old Navy emailed out a coupon for $15 off any $50 purchase.
  • If you have a Captain D's around, join the D's Club and get a free meal on your birthday.  Plus right now, if you join you get a free dessert with meal purchase for 4 weeks.
  • Join Don Pablos Habaneros Club and get $10 loaded to your loyalty card just for celebrating your birthday.  I really love this card, I am always getting money loaded to my card and we don't really eat there too often.
  • Join Baskin Robbins Birthday Club and get a free ice cream cone or scoop on your birthday.  These are usually located in or near Dunkin Donuts.
  • Grotto's Pizza emails you a coupon for a free gelato when you join there Newsletter program.  Plus you get a coupon for $3.00 off a large pizza just for joining.  And if you really like Grotto's Pizza, go on Tuesday nights for half price pizza night... Excellent Deal.
  • Join the My Cold Stone Club for a B1G1 deal on your birthday.  Plus they email you about other deals and promotions throughout the year.
  • Join Auntie Anne's Pretzel Perks and get a B1G1 Free deal on your birthday as well.  They also email out a lot of coupons through the year and they are really useful when you are the mall.  Can't pass up the new Pretzel Bites.
  • Smoothie King emails a coupon for a B1G1 Free 20oz smoothie when you sign up for emails.
  • Brio Tuscan Grill emails a coupon for a complementary Beef Medallions and Shrimp Scampi when you join there email list.
  • Chili's emails a coupon for a free Brownie Sundae when you join there email club.  Plus you get a coupon for a free chips and dip just for joining.
  • JB Dawsons emails you a coupon for a free dessert with entree purchase when you join there e-club.
  • Jake's Burgers emails you a coupon for a free burger/sandwich on your birthday.  Plus when you join you get a coupon for a free milkshake.  Click here to join there e-club.
  • The Melting Pot emails you a coupon for a free Chocolate Fondue for two when you purchase certain meals through Club Fondue.  I've never actually eaten here, but I've heard good things.
  • Red Robin gives you a free burger on your birthday.  No purchase required.
  • Aveda has a nice birthday club as well.  Get free products when you join.
Also, Hip2Save has an extensive list of freebies for your birthday.  Check out her site for a ton more.

It really is hard to do everything even though it is free, but it sure is nice to be thought of and have that option.  Take some time and sign yourself up for a few freebies.  I recommend Baskin Robbins, Red Robin, Jakes, Sephora, DD Perks and Don Pablos.  Those are my favorites for complete freebies - no strings attached.

Herr's Halloween Happenings, Monday, Oct. 24

UPDATE:  Reporter Jen let me know that this is a fun activity for kids and that they should dress up in costume to get the treats from Herr's.  She recommends getting there early because the line grows quickly and you will have to wait a long time.

On Monday, October 24th, Herr's in Nottingham, PA is having thier Halloween Happenings from 5pm to 8pm.

The website advertises a Halloween themed party, Hay Rides, Costumes and a tour of the factory.

I'm not sure of any of the details about whether or not the kids are actually 'trick or treating' or the cost of the hay ride, but I will try and find out some more information tomorrow morning after they open and repost it.

Click here to go to the Herr's website for more information.

Free 8 x 10 Collage Print at Walgreens

Make a big deal out of your little ones. FREE 8x10 Collage Print* + 11x14 Poster for $1.99 thru Saturday, October 22
Walgreen's is giving out free 8 x 10 collage prints through Saturday.  This means that you have to order it by Saturday and then you can pick it up when you get a free moment.  These are great freebies for whatever.  I make them for holidays, birthdays, whenever days and give them to family and friends.  Everyone loves pictures, right?

Go here, and create your 8 x 10 photo collage.  Use code CLG8X10 at checkout and select pick up in store.

$5.00 off any $25.00 purchase at SPIRIT Halloween

Go here and like Spirit Halloween on Facebook to print out a coupon for $5.00 off $25.00.  This is only good through Sunday.  Have fun.  Also, they are located in the old Martins in Rising Sun.

Thursdays at the.... GROCERY STORE

Change of plans, since I went to Milburn's on Tuesday with my walking friends, we skipped the mall today....

Instead, Little G and I celebrated Sweat Pants Day (at least in our house) and went to the grocery stores to pick up some deals.  Here's what we got!!!
Here's the breakdown:
Total Before Coupons at Both ACME and Martins - $184.53
Total After Coupons at Both ACME and Martins - $54.21
Savings of 70% - Not my best, but decent for sure.
55 Items = about $1.00 per item

I had coupons for everything except for the fruit, the Deli Thins Bread, Aunt Jemima Pancake Mix, Diet Coke and the lunch meat, however all of it was on sale and made for other deals.
  • The Pepperidge Farms Deli Thins were $2.99 at Martins but I discovered that you got $1.00 off any pre-package lunch meat with purchase, which I had already picked up and was in my shopping cart.  The bread package also had a $1.00 off an Campbell's Select soup coupon attached to it, so I went and picked up the cheapest can for $1.67 - so $.67 and I'll eat it for sure.
  • The General Mills Cereal deal at Martins turned out really well, here's what you can do.  Trix and Lucky Charms are on Sale 2 for $5.00.  When you buy 4, you get $4 off instantly and a coupon for $4.50 towards a gallon of milk.  Go here and print 2 '$1.10 off 2 boxes of GM cereal'.  So after you buy 4, that's $10, minus your $4 off instantly, and your coupons of $2.10 = $3.90 for 4 boxes of cereal (my stock up price is anything under $1.00) PLUS you get a Catalina for a free gallon of milk up to $4.50.  Milk doesn't cost more than $4.00 at Martins and the extra will towards the rest of your order so make sure you have extra items in your cart. In the end, it's a money maker of a deal - can't pass it up.
  • If you read about the Gold Peak Iced Tea deals before - They're back.  Go here and like them on facebook to print out 2 $1.00 off coupons for the single serve size.  These are both on sale for $1.00 at Martins and ACME.  In Martins, they are located in the back by the pre-packaged cheese, subs, deli area in the cooler.  In ACME, they are in the Iced Tea aisle.  FREE TEA!!
  • The toothpaste deal at Martins that I talked about earlier in the week, worked great except for the instant $3.00 coming off.  No problem, customer service gave me $3.00 cash back.  Check out the details here.
  • At ACME, Crest Toothpaste is on sale for $1.00.  Use the $1.00 off coupons from the last P & G insert and get you some free toothpaste - BY THE WAY, NEVER PAY MONEY FOR TOOTHPASTE!!
  • The Eggland's Best Eggs were still a great deal at $.78 per dozen even without the e-coupon from Martins (I previously used it and I guess it doesn't load again).  Stock up price for sure, I mean, as much as you can stock up on eggs.
  • Also at ACME - Lloyd's BBQ is on sale for $3.99 (normally $6.99).  I used 2 coupons for $1.00 off from the 8/28 SS to pay only $2.99 a piece.  Easy dinners for Mama!!!
Things to remember, ACME deals end on Thursdays, so if your interested, do it today.  Martins only doubles 1 like coupon per transaction, so break them up to get the best savings.

If you have any questions, let me know and I'll try and help you out!!!

ANOTHER Fun Day at Milburn's

So, if you haven't gone to Milburn's yet this season, do it already.
I went again on Tuesday and had a wonderful time.

Little G got to hang with her Buddy Little L (I got to hang out with my friend Meredith (I mentioned your name this time) and see all of the animals, play on the playground and eat a picnic lunch.

And since she was a good little girl - she got a cider donut and Mommy got some lettuce (I know, not fair).  Mommy has had her fair share of donuts in her life, sorry Milburn's, but I could do without another.

Feeding the Baby Goats.

Sleepy Piggy - Also Smelly

Tractor Time

The Pumpkin that I'm sure everyone poses by because no one can pick it up to buy it!
Here's my tips on having a great, inexpensive time:
  1. Go during the week, less crowded and your kids can run around a little bit more because there is more space.
  2. Bring quarters - I forgot, thanks Meredith - to feed the animals.  Not the quarters, but put them in the machines for food.  Meredith even thought to bring a cup to put the feed in so that little hands didn't have to hold it all - or maybe so Meredith didn't have to hold it all.
  3. Give yourself at least an hours time to see all the animals, walk around, eat lunch and shop around.
  4. Pack a lunch or buy lunch at the stand.
  5. Stop in the store and buy a little bit of goodies - they are good!  They have baked goods, healthy garden items, or course apples, cider, jellies and lots of other things I don't know what to do with.

If you haven't read my previous posts on how to have a fabulous, affordable adventure at Milburn's, check it out here

Man, I feel like I'm on a roll today...

Subway is my new fave place to grab something healthy and quick and so here's an easy freebie...

On the back of the receipt it advertises to "take our one minute survey at tellsubway.com and receive your reward".  The reward is a free cookie (that's not healthy, but Little G loves her some cookies).  They email you your validation code and then you just return with your receipt with the code written on it and get a free cookie.  You do however have to get the free cookie at the place where you were served.

Here's another thing I noticed at Subways... kid's meal prices vary a lot from place to place:
  • Subway at Walmart in North East - $4.00
  • Subway at Christiana Mall - $3.75

  • Save $1.00 on your next purchase of $10 or more from our Meat Department

Here are a few deals I've noticed at Martins for this week:
  • Crest Toothpaste with Scope is on sale for $2.00, there were $2.00 off any crest with scope coupons in the 9/11 SS.  Makes for FREE toothpaste.  If you combined this with the above HBA coupon from Martins, it could turn into a money maker.  Also, this is part of the Buy 4, save $3.00 on the back page, so HUGE MONEY MAKER... HERE'S HOW - Buy 4 ($8.00), Use 4 coupons ($8.00 off), Use $.50 off coupon from Martins (MM of $.50) and then get $3.00 off instantly for buying 4 (MM of $3.50).  Make sure you have extra items in your cart to cover the overage.

  • Purina One Dog Food is on sale for $5.99.  Use the $4.00 off coupon from the 10/9 SS and pay only $1.99.  And if you have 3 of these coupons (I don't), it is part of the buy 3, save $3.00 from the back page.  So you would pay $2.97 for 3 bags of dog food.

  • Egglands Best Eggs are on sale for $1.88.  This is a better deal than I got two weeks ago with my Martins e-coupon.  Use the $.55 coupon (doubles to $1.10) from the 10/2 SS and load the Martins e-coupon for $.60.  Pay only $.18 for a dozen eggs - WHOLLY COW!!!!  Even if you already used the e-coupon like me, still you only pay $.78 for a dozen eggs - wholly cow!
So, I'm gonna go out and test these deals later, check back for my updates!!!

Thursday's at the Mall... 10/13 edition

Love Thursday's at the Mall...

Today, I took Little G to JCPenny's to get her Halloween pictures and her 2nd birthday pictures done.  I can't believe she will be 2 soon.  Time sure does fly...

Anyways, I love getting my pictures done here (for the most part).  You can schedule an appointment online with all of the information and what your ideas are for your pictures.  I've always had a good experience (except when G isn't on her best behavior) and for the most part the employees always have great ideas, props and seem to know what they are doing.  It takes less than two weeks for them to come in and they are great quality photos.  Don't worry about a baby that won't smile on Que - that is G.  Somehow they seem to always get at least one great photo.

The best part is the price - FREE SITTING FEE, FREE 8 X 10 AND $3.99 SHEETS! (with a coupon of course).  I use to take G every month or so when she was a baby, now not so frequently, but it is so much fun to look back and see how much she has changed.  So where do you get these coupons?  Look in the coupon inserts, look in magazines, check your mail and look on the JCPenny Portrait website.  Spend about $30 and get a lifetime of memories.

Here are some of the pitfalls and advice from me on how to avoid them:

  1. Schedule your appointment first thing in the morning or right after the employee lunch break.  G is horrible at waiting and it seems as though they are always running behind.  I can see why, sometimes it takes forever to get a child to cooperate.
  2. As far as I know, these aren't highly qualified, novice photographers with the most modern, current, up to date equipment - however, they do a nice job with what they have.  If you are expecting perfection and expertise, maybe a private photographer would do better.
  3. Stick to your guns (budget) about what you came to order.  They will try and sell you when you are viewing your pictures by creating beautiful collages, black and white pictures, invitations, cards, etc.  They have to create something from each category before they can let you pick your pictures, so let them create them and then just pass on them.  They tend to run anywhere from $10 to $20 per picture extra.
  4. If you are even considering Holiday pictures, do it early and do it first thing in the morning.  It becomes a zoo in the portrait studio even at open.
Check out my other posts about Thursday's at the Mall for more fun, inexpensive things to do.

Grocery Store Match Ups Week of 10/9/11

Here are sites on where to find the best deals on grocery stores in the county:
  • Martins - Thanks Livingrichwithcoupons - This states that it is for Stop and Shop but Stop and Shop, Giant and Martins are all owned by the same company and she does an excellent job.  Not super excited about Martins this week - but I think they may have an excellent deal on pasta sauce and pasta - Check back tomorrow for my update on Martins Monday.
  • ACME - Thanks FamilyFrugalFun. There are a few items to stock up on this week at ACME like Campbell's Soup, Dove, Canned Tomato's and Sugar.
  • Food Lion - Thanks afrugalchick. Can someone please tell me what they buy at Food Lion that would be considered an excellent deal?  Am I missing it or is this grocery store not for the super shoppers?
  • Redners - Thanks forthemommas.  Doesn't double coupons and no great sales, kinda in the same boat as Food Lion.
Coupon policy's vary widely from place to place and from state to state.  Make sure you know what your store's policy is and keep a copy of it with you if you can find a printable version of it.

What are we buying this week? 10/9 edition

Just a heads up, this week I am looking for big bargains on
Soda....
Many of you are aware of my slight addiction to Diet Coke and we can never have enough of it in the house.  So, I’m gonna see what I can find this week.
I can remember the days of 5/$10 on 12-packs.... where or where has the time gone.
Can’t find it that good anymore.  Keep watching to see where the best deals are this week.

Here’s what I was able to find.  Don’t forget there were Pepsi Brand coupons in last weekends inserts.  Also, concentrate on Unit Price.  It is easiest to measure in can packs and 2 liters because the volume is always the same.  Bottles vary greatly now a days from drink to drink.  I will put the unit price in (parenthesis).

Martins
Coca-Cola 2 Liters on sale 2/$3.00 ($1.50 each)Canada Dry Ginger Ale 12 packs 4/$10 with a free Sun Drop 2 Liter ($2.50 each/.20 can)Pepsi 12 packs 3/$12 and you get a free bag of Doritos ($4.00 pack/.33 can plus free Doritos)

ACME
Pepsi Brand 12 packs/ 6 packs are on sale for 3/$12 ($4.00/.33 can per 12 pack)
Pepsi Brand 2 liters are on sale 2/$3 ($1.50 each)
Coke Brand 2 liters are on sale 3/$4 ($1.33 each)
Coke Brand 20 packs on sale $5.99 ($.29 can)

Target
Coke 12 packs are on sale for 3/$11 and you can get a free 12pk of Coke Zero when you buy 3 ($2.75 pack/.22 can - if you get all 4 packs)

Redners
Pepsi Brand 12 packs are on sale 3/$12 ($4.00 pack/.33 can)
Coke 2 liters are 4/$5 ($1.25 each)
Coke Brand 6 pack/bottles  are on sale 3/$9
Pepsi Brand 6 pack/bottles are on sale 3/$11

Genuardi’s/Safeway
Pepsi Brand 2 liters are on sale for $.99 limit 4
Pepsi Brand 24 packs are on sale for $6.49 ($.29/can)

ShopRite
Pepsi Brand 12 packs on sale 4/$13 ($3.25 pack/.27 can)
Coke 2 liters on sale for 2/$3 ($1.50 each)
Coke 6 pack/bottles on sale for $3.99
Pepsi 6 pack/bottles on sale for 3/$10
Pepsi 8 pack/bottles on sale for 3/$12

Walgreens
Pepsi 12 packs on sale 3/$10 ($3.33 pack/$.27 can)

Rite Aid
Coke 12 packs on sale for 4/$13 with $2 in UP rewards, so 4/$11 ($2.75 pack/.22 can - if you consider in Up rewards)
Coke 2 liters on sale for 4/$5 (1.25 each)

CVS
7up, Canada Dry, A & W or Sunkist 12 packs on sale 3/$11 ($3.66 each/.30 can)
Pepsi 2 Liters $.99 limit 5

Final Decision:
  1. Because I am a Coke fan, and they just so happen to be the least expensive of all canned soda this week - Target and Rite Aid both have the for $.22/can.  At Target I can get 3 Diet Cokes and I get 1 free Coke Zero (husband will drink it).  At Rite Aid, I have to front the $13 dollars and get $2 dollars in rewards back, but I’m also able to get 4 packs of Diet Coke.
  2. Pick up a few of the $.99 2 litter Pepsi’s at CVS or price match at Wal-Mart if you don’t feel like making it out to CVS.  It can never hurt to have a few 2 liters laying around, you never know when you’ll need them.
  3. Always pay attention to Unit Price (the cost per item).  Soda prices vary so much and so does there packaging.
What are you buying this week?

Free Iced Tea, Cheap Handsoap and $.39/lb bananas at Martins

Did a little Martins shopping today with Little G and here are some of our finds:

Gold Peak Iced Tea Single serve size- $1.00
Use $1.00 off coupon here - Make sure to go back and print 2 (thats the most each computer can print, so if you have more than one computer, print away)
FREE - You will find these in the back by the carry out area in the cooler

Eggland's Best Eggs - $2.29 - Regular price
Use $.55 coupon from 10/2SS - doubles to $1.10
Use Martins e-coupon for $.60
Pay $.59 for a dozen eggs - better than I previously thought!!!

2 Ideas for the Martins/Careone coupon that I mentioned here:
Careone Handsoap - $1.00
Use the $.50 off any Careone item from the coupon machine
Pay $.50
or
Careone Cottonballs - $.99
Use the $.50 off any Careone item from the coupon machine
Pay $.49

Also, I was buying some fruit and went to check the price of bananas.  They are $.59/lb but I noticed off to the left, there were bags filled with random bananas and they were only $.39/lb.  That's a good price for bananas in my opinion.  They were a little more ripe, but if you use them within a couple of days or to cook, there perfect.  Don't forget to use your $.50 off a $6.00 produce purchase martins coupon from the coupon machine.

A great day at Milburn's Orchards

It is beautiful outside and my friend Allison and I decided to take the girls to Milburn's to spend a few hours.  We had a great time and best of all, we only spent money on the things that we decided to buy at the store.

During the week, it is free admission into Milburn's.  You just can't do a lot of the extra activities that they offer on the weekend at $8.00 per person like the hay ride, face painting, games, etc.  But that was fine for us because the girls aren't old enough yet to do those things and we spent our money at the store instead and brought home some goodies.  We packed our lunch and played outside. The girls had a blast and it was nice to be outside.

Check out Milburns website for lots of activities.
